5 Ways to Maximize Space in a Small Bedroom

5 Ways to Maximize Space in a Small Bedroom

The bedroom is our personal sanctuary. It is the place we feel most comfortable in. And it’s a place we shed all our pretensions. It is for this reason that so many people value their personal space and why bedrooms have become places that people recuperate.

Not all people are blessed with a spacious bedroom. In fact, most people have to contend with a room with four walls and a door. But just because their bedroom is small doesn’t mean it has to appear that way. There are tips and tricks one can do to make any room appear larger than it is. Below is a short list of doing just that.

  1. UNDERSTAND YOUR SPACE

Some of the reasons why some bedrooms are very difficult to manage are due to the sheer size of the bed. I’m not saying that a queen or king-size bed is bad but if you have a limited bedroom space, then you might want to rethink that bed you’ve been dying to get. Maybe you don’t really need all that sleeping space all that much.

The good news is that there are a ton of smaller and more compact options for you to choose from. There are almost limitless options for you when it comes to mattresses and it’s always a good idea to do a bit of research into what’s available in the dimension that is well suited for your bedroom.

There are a lot of mattresses and foam that have been designed with one person in mind. This smaller option may or may not be suitable for you but it’s something to think about. Although smaller, some of these options have the necessary ergonomics to ensure that you get the best sleep every night.

  1. REMOVE LARGE BEDROOM FURNITURE

One way or another, large furniture pieces will consume space in the bedroom. Many people say that some of those furniture pieces can help with managing the space. But in reality, that is not at all the case.

There’s no point in wanting to get a large wardrobe or dresser to store your clothes, garments, and other personal things. Instead, consider putting up shelves in order to fully maximize the vertical space of the walls. It is not much you can do with limited floor space. Walls are an ideal place to get the necessary storage. If you want to keep an armoire, just make sure it is small enough for your storage needs.

You can make your room more comfortable to relax in if there are minimal obstacles and congestion. Even taking a nap in your room is more enjoyable if it feels open and free. Creating shelves and using small furniture pieces to organize your personal belongings will help reduce the feeling of clutter.

  1. REMOVE ELECTRONICS FROM THE ROOM

Keeping your computer and entertainment system in your bedroom is quite common these days. While this may sound like a good idea, it certainly won’t help your space predicament. And also, an entertainment system in the bedroom is not really good for your sleep.

Electronic devices are bulky, heavy, and always need space for installation. If you have a bedroom with limited space, you should consider keeping those gadgets and equipment out of your room. Even if you are fine with sleeping with TV noise in the background, you’ll start getting used to sleeping with complete silence pretty soon. Not to mention it can help you sleep better at night.

If you need to have a TV in your bedroom, maybe consider getting a flat screen that can be mounted on the wall. This is the best way to maximize space in a small bedroom. It’s going to be worth the investment and effort in the long run. Also, consider removing your work desktop set up outside your room. If you really have to work in your bed, maybe use your laptop for such cases. Otherwise, keep your bedroom work-free as possible.

  1. GET MORE SHELVES

The best way to organize your things in your room is to keep them on the shelves. The more shelves that’s available for you to use, the more storage space you have. And although I’ve mentioned it before, it bears to repeat it here because shelves are going to be necessary for a small bedroom.

More specifically, floating shelves are amongst the best innovations when it comes to interior design. Even without dressers or cabinets, shelves can provide the necessary space to store all your essentials items.

You can include baskets and other organizers on shelves to help keep things organized and tidy. Shelves can save your life in the long run.

  1. Regular Cleaning

Cleaning should be a necessity if you want to remove all visible clutters in your bedroom. Sure, it may seem obvious at first, but the more your room accumulates clutter, the more space is being wasted.

When it comes to cleaning, start by removing dust and revamping your bed using fresh linens. Then, all the unnecessary things in your room should be removed and stored somewhere else, or donated. If it’s not necessary for you, then it shouldn’t reside in your bedroom. And if you don’t use it at all, it’s best to dispose of it or donate it. It’s better if you follow the minimalist philosophy and just retain the things that you need. Once the decluttering is done, you can start to organize your clothes, gadgets, equipment, and other essential items you need in your room.

Also, improving the lighting in your bedroom can do wonders for your spatial perception. A well-chosen lighting fixture can make a smaller room appear bigger and give the space a better ambiance. Changing the paint on walls, as well as the ceiling, is also another way to improve your room and make it appear a better space to rest and relax.

At the end of the day, the room that you have and you look is all that matters. Whether it be big or small, it doesn’t matter as long as you enjoy your time spending inside. To some, their room might only be a place for them to sleep, but many people consider it somewhere they can recharge and reconnect with their own selves. The list above merely outlines how to make it into a comfortable space.
