Clever Ways to Staying Fit While Traveling

Clever Ways to Staying Fit While Traveling

You know how after making a two-weeks break from exercising feels after you get back to your fitness routine? Pretty painful, right. And when you’re on vacation or a business trip, maintaining your exercising routine and balanced diet you are used to seems to be even harder. Well, it doesn’t have to be, and it doesn’t mean that after you get back home the awful struggle with losing weight and getting back to shape is waiting around a corner. Sticking to your routine is actually quite easy. Here are some useful tips that will help you stay fit wherever you are.

Pay attention to what you eat, but don’t hesitate to try out some new food

Most people think that being on vacation means that their balanced diet is on vacation, too, but this is not completely true. Just because you are far from home, that doesn’t mean that your body is on a break and that the consequences of eating tons of junk food won’t be there when you get back. If you are dining in a restaurant, make sure that you always order some vegetables to go on the side. Not only because of maintaining your perfect weight but also because of providing your body with all the vitamins and minerals it needs. Plus, you will feel better and more energized for other activities.  This, of course, doesn’t mean that you need to be obsessed with calories, and you should certainly try out some traditional cuisine, but make sure that you eat as healthy as you can.

Jogging is always an option

This is something that you can do wherever you go – a seaside resort, a country, a large city. There is nothing more beautiful than jogging on the sand and watching the sunrise. Even if you are traveling to a big city, you can always find a nearby park or a jogging trail. You can also search for some local running communities. That way you will more easily find good places for running, and it’s also a great opportunity to meet some locals. If you are traveling to the mountains, you don’t have to give up running. Mountain running is very popular among runners, as it is far more challenging, and it requires a good physical shape. However, when running on an uneven surface or off-roads your joints are at a much higher risk of injuries, so you must pay extra attention to your running gear. Check Rockay Running and find some super useful items that will make your running safer.

Find a nearby gym

If you are staying in a hotel, there will probably be a gym that you can use anytime for free. Going to the gym doesn’t have to be reserved just for regular working days. Just a half an hour of working out in the gym before breakfast will be enough to stay in shape and you won’t have to start from scratch when you get back home. If you have decided to spend your vacation in a countryside, or you are visiting a relative who lives in a small town where it’s unlikely to find a gym, you can always find something to do instead – ask them if they need any help around the house (and there is always something to do around the house), try gardening, helping with animals, or anything that requires physical activity. Where there’s a will, there’s a way!

Walk as much as possible

Don’t use a bus or a subway and walk whenever it’s possible. This is also the best way to explore a city. Make sure that you have downloaded an offline map (just in case) and hit the road. Even if it takes two hours to get to the museum you wanted to visit, there is no better way to check out the neighborhoods and discover places, while being active at the same time. This is a great way to see things that you would never see by going by bus or a train. Search for some cool places that you want to visit and plan a route for that day. You can also join a walking tour, and hear some authentic tales, visit landmarks and discover some places that are not mentioned on any travel website. And the best thing is that the tours are totally free!

Do some workouts

Do some workouts

There is plenty of exercises that you can do without even leaving a room. Make a workout plan that works for you and add some sit-ups, lunges, push-ups, squats, jumping jacks. These are all exercises that don’t require having too much space or any equipment. If you don’t want to bother with that or just can’t think of a plan by yourself, there are hundreds of videos and apps that you can download to your phone. Most of these apps have daily planned exercises, so it won’t be hard sticking to the exercising routine. If there are videos – even better. That way you will make sure that you do the exercises properly and save yourself from a stretched ankle or any other unwanted injury.

Stay hydrated

Drinking enough water is a must, so don’t forget about this when you’re on vacation when it’s easy to switch from water to tasty cocktails. Not only because of your health but also because of keeping you full and ensuring that your metabolism is up to speed. Whenever you leave your room, make sure that you bring enough water with you, especially if you’re going for a long walk or a run. It’s easy to get carried away with all delicious drinks, ice coffees, and cold cocktails while lying on the beach, but don’t forget that this is not a replacement for water. Also, try to avoid alcohol as much as possible. Not only that spirits have A LOT of calories, but they will also get you dehydrated.

All this doesn’t mean that you shouldn’t have fun, because travelling is all about fun. Just bear in mind that following this couple of rules will make it easier to go back to your normal fitness routine once you get back home. You will see that you will have more energy to do things that you were looking so forward to once the vacay days commence!
