Should You Buy Basic Clothing From Amazon?

Should You Buy Basic Clothing From Amazon?

Amazon is the biggest retailer in the world. In fact, it recently surpassed Walmart! With over 30% of the market share of the U.S. e-commerce retail market, it’s no surprise that if you can buy something, you can certainly buy it on Amazon.

When it comes to clothing, you have access to hundreds of brands. While buying top quality clothes is no issue, can we also trust Amazon for our basic clothing needs?

The answer to that is yes!

It all lies in Amazon’s own Amazon Essentials. It’s a clothing line of basic wear for men, women, kids – the whole family. There are even options if you’re on the large side or you want something that’s more for an active lifestyle.

For a fraction of the price, it is possible to get decent clothing from the Amazon Essential line up. Don’t expect something too fancy. These are basic clothing options only. Considering the price point, most people have something positive to say at least when it comes to the Men’s clothing line. But don’t fret, the women’s clothing line has garnered plenty of positive attention as well. A look at the reviews on the Amazon website will attest to this.

What’s even better is the huge selection of options and colours. The Women’s Stretch Pull-On Jegging has 12 color options and comes in every size you could think of, including long iterations for those ladies that are extra tall. Even more impressive, the men’s regular-fit polo shirt comes with 33 color options.

It is a common theme from Amazon. Offer the widest selection as possible for the most affordable price. And it works.

A lot of this can be attributed to Amazon’s already extensive infrastructure which streamlines their manufacturing line from product conception to delivery at your door. It means that if the market says one of their products is not meeting the standard, adjustments can be made at a lightning quick pace. This is unheard of from many brands (especially boutique ones) which can be stuck with the same line of clothes for more than a season.

And if you do not like what you get, they have an excellent return policy. Even better, is the prime wardrobe feature (requiring a prime membership). It allows you to choose up to 8 items and enjoy a 7-day try-on period.

It’s a feature that distinguishes Amazon from the competition. Many clothing brands won’t accept returns if you’ve clearly worn the product. However; with the prime feature, you can easily make returns after knowing 100% if the clothes is a good fit or not, thus guaranteeing your satisfaction.

But why do shoppers see Amazon as a source for basic clothing and not fancy attire? Well, there’s a couple of reasons for this.

Whilst you can buy fancy clothing from Amazon, most shoppers only use it for basic clothing. It’s the same line of thinking as Walmart – massive selection at affordable prices.

On top of this, it is convenient and it’s online. This means you simply won’t have a chance to actually try on the garment before buying. And most people won’t buy anything too expensive if they can’t actually see themselves wearing it in a shop mirror.

Many luxury designers also don’t want to make their stock available on multiple online platforms. After all, that mean’s such clothes won’t be as exclusive anymore. It’s like putting your upscale brand in Target. Whilst you can easily shop for it, it might just change your perceptive about the perceived quality of the brand.

However, the landscape is changing.

As of 2020, Amazon has launched over 50 in-house fashion labels which meet the cravings of people who want clothes beyond the basics. Many of them are still at amazingly affordable prices, in the range of $50 – $100. So yes, if you have a bit of a fancy tooth, Amazon can accommodate you.

Still, it’ll be some time before Amazon really dominates that upscale market. You can’t simply change the shopping habits of people overnight.

For now though; it’s best sticking with the basics, which Amazon has completely nailed. Simply put; they are the best option out there.

If you haven’t already, you should definitely consider Amazon Essentials when it comes to getting your basic clothing needs met. You’d be surprised what they can offer and the quality is comparable or even better then more expensive varieties from other brands.
